University of Florida sophomore Allie Will (Boca Raton, Fla.) won the consolation singles draw of the 2010 Riviera/ITA Women’s All American Championships consolation singles draw on Sunday held at the Riviera Country Club.
After dropping a hard-fought first-set, the second-year Gator dominated the final two frames for the 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Texas’ 15th-ranked Aeriel Ellis to win the title, as Will improved her career singles record to an impressive 51-6.
“Allie showed a lot of character from bouncing back after losing in the first round,” UF head coach Roland Thrornqvist said.
This is the third collegiate singles championship for Will, who also won the 2009 SEC Coaches Fall Classic Flight A draw, as well as the 2009 ITA Southeast Regional singles crown.
“Overall, the tournament was a disappointment for our team based on our results, but we definitely learned a lot,” Thornqvist continued. “We have a great team and we will be better.”
The event capped a long eight days of competition at the national event for the Gators, who next have a couple of weeks before returning to competition for the Oct. 22-25 ITA Southeast Regionals, hosted by Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
