Tahnai Annis tied the match in the 86th minute to push the meeting to overtime, ending in a 2-2 2OT tie. In the opening round of the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala., Lindsay Thompson scored in the 102nd minute to advance Florida to the tournament’s second round with a 1-0 2OT win.
The Gators dropped to a tie for second with Tennessee after a winless weekend in the state of Alabama. Florida recorded a 1-1 2OT tie at Alabama on Friday, Oct. 8. Tahnai Annis gave UF a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute when she scored her eighth goal of the season. A goal in the 90th minute by UA’s Brooke Rogers off a corner kick tied the contest, pushing the two teams to overtime for only the second time in the 16 all-time meetings. The Gators lost at Auburn 1-0 on Sunday after a Tiger goal off a corner kick in the 90th minute.
After posting a pair of wins last weekend in the Magnolia State, the Lady Vols moved into a tie for second in the SEC overall standings. Midfielder Caroline Brown, the reigning SEC Freshman Soccer Player of the Week, provided UT with the golden goal in the 103rd minute. Tennessee defeated Mississippi 3-1 on Sunday. In UT’s other league action this season, the Lady Vols defeated Arkansas (2-1) and Vanderbilt (1-0), lost to Kentucky (1-0) and tied LSU (1-1 2OT).
