University of Florida senior Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) led the Gator men’s golf team to a 12th-place finish after the first round of the Isleworth Invitational in Orlando on Sunday. Vongvanij made two birdies and four bogeys to finish the day tied for 22nd on the individual leaderboard with his score of 74 (+2).
Sophomore Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) carded one birdie and five bogeys on the day to shoot four over par and put him in a tie for 32nd, while sophomore Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) made one birdie and six bogeys to finish with a score of 77 (+5).
Sophomore Phillip Choi (Orlando, Fla.) started the round with a bogey and two double bogeys in the first seven holes and made a birdie followed by two bogeys to finish the round six over par.
In his second tournament as a Gator, junior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) made four bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie for a score of 79 (+7).
“We had a tough day,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “But I think this gives us an opportunity to see what we’re made of. We have a chance to pick it up and do a little better tomorrow.”
The Gators return to the course Monday morning for the second round at 8 a.m. ET.
