Three different Gators contributed the six goals scored in Florida’s two home wins versus SEC Eastern Division rivals last weekend. Florida opened the weekend Friday with a 4-2 win over Tennessee. Gator juniors Tahnai Annis and Lindsay Thompson each turned in their fourth career double-goal matches. Annis now leads the SEC with 10 goals this season. In Sunday’s 2-1 overtime win versus No. 21 Georgia, the Gators trailed in the opening half for the first time this season after the Bulldogs scored in the 12th minute. Sophomore Erika Tymrak provided the tying goal in the 82nd minute and then hit a 23-yard golden goal strike in the 97th minute. Tymrak and Thompson each picked up weekly honors on Monday as Tymrak was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Thompson is part of the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
The Tigers opened last weekend with a 0-0 2OT at Mississippi. It was the seventh shutout for LSU in 2010. On Sunday, the Tigers defeated Mississippi State 6-2 for their highest offensive output since their season-opening 8-0 win over South Alabama. Junior midfielder Natalie Martineau (5 goals, 1 assist) leads LSU this season with 11 points.
