Senior Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) earned a sixth-place tie to lead his team to a tie for fifth place after the second round at the Isleworth Invitational in Orlando on Monday. The Gators started out the day in 12th place and Vongvanij started out tied for 22nd. Florida’s score of 290 was the lowest score of any team on the day.
Vongvanij made a birdie to start out the round, followed with a bogey on the second hole and made two more birdies on holes three and six. He finished up the second nine holes with one birdie and one bogey.
Sophomores Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Phillip Choi (Orlando, Fla.) also improved from the first round with his score of 73 (+1). McCumber carded five bogeys and four birdies, while Choi shot even par with two bogeys and two birdies.
Sophomore Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) made five bogeys and two birdies for a score of 75 and junior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) made three bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey on hole 18.
“I was really happy with the way we played today,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “We got ourselves back into this tournament. I hope we can come back and have another good day tomorrow.”
