No. 12 Florida Soccer Plays Host to Arkansas for Home Finale

The No. 12 University of Florida soccer team (13-2-2, 7-1-1 SEC) plays host to Southeastern Conference Western Division rival Arkansas (5-9-3, 2-5-2 SEC) Sunday, Oct. 24 for UF’s regular-season home finale. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and admission is free.

Florida used a goal from Lindsay Thompson in the 64th minute to take a 1-0 win at Arkansas when the two teams last met in 2009. It was also a close match on the box score, as Arkansas edged UF in shots (15-14) and UF had the slight advantage in shots on goal (5-4). It was the third consecutive 1-0 win for UF when the match was played in Fayetteville, Ark.

Florida used a goal in each half to take a 2-0 win at SEC Western Division leader LSU Thursday evening. Freshman Taylor Travis put UF on the board early with a 35-yard strike in the fourth minute. The goal was the longest of the season for the Gators. Natalia Torosian and Maggie Rodgers were inserted into the match in the 70th minute and 52 seconds later, the pair combined for a goal. Rodgers registered her first collegiate assist when the ball she sent from the right sideline led to Torosian’s third goal of the season.

After last weekend’s performances, two Gators picked up weekly honors on Oct. 18. Sophomore Erika Tymrak scored both goals, including the golden goal, in UF’s 2-1 win versus then No. 21 Georgia on Oct. 17, earning her the SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor. Junior Lindsay Thompson scored twice in UF’s 4-2 win over Tennessee on Oct. 15 plus provided the assist on Tymrak’s golden goal versus Georgia. She was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.

The Razorbacks are currently tied for 10th in the SEC standings with its league record of 2-5-2 and is just three points away from moving into a tie for the eighth spot. The top eight teams will advance to the 2010 SEC Soccer Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala., Nov. 3-7. In Thursday’s match versus No. 18 South Carolina, the Razorbacks lost 3-1. Arkansas was undefeated in its three matches prior to the USC match – Kentucky (2-0 win), at Mississippi State (4-0 win) and at Mississippi (4-4 2OT). Senior Kelsey Allison leads the Razorbacks this season with 15 points off of seven goals (including a goal Thursday versus No. 18 South Carolina) and one assist.
