GAINESVILLE — Florida coach Urban Meyer is pleased with everything Chris Rainey has done in his return from a suspension and on Thursday said the redshirt junior from Lakeland will play against Georgia.
"[Rainey did everything Meyer asked] and beyond," Meyer said. "He really had a good week."
Rainey will get some snaps at running back as well, even though Jeff Demps (foot), Mike Gillislee (hamstring) and Emmanuel Moody (quad) are all expected to play.
Rainey was dismissed from the Florida football program after his Sept. 14 arrest for sending a threatening text message to a woman he has dated. He pled to a misdemeanor stalking charge on Sept. 27 and received deferred prosecution, and Meyer allowed Rainey to begin practicing with the team before the Mississippi State game.
The Gators (4-3, 2-3 SEC) certainly can use him against Georgia. Rainey, who caught six passes for 34 yards and one touchdown and returned three punts for 17 yards in UF's first two games, has rushed for 1,237 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two seasons before being converted to a receiver. He has nine rushes or receptions of 30 or more yards in his career.
