Junior Florida right-side/setter Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill.) has best been known during her time with the Gators for her versatility – her multi-faceted ability to help her team be successful.
Murphy’s 19 career triple-doubles may be the most noticeable indication of that fact, but it is also evident in the multiple ways in which she scores points for the Gators. In the sport of volleyball, a player’s total points includes an accumulation of her total kills, total service aces and total blocks.
This weekend, Murphy looks to become just the 29th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her collegiate career. Through 77 career matches, Murphy has accumulated 993.0 total points and needs just seven more points to reach 1,000.
Aury Cruz (2000-03) is Florida’s all-time career points leader with 2,188.5. Cruz and Aycan Gokberk (1992-95), who scored 2,119 career points, are the only two players to have scored 2,000 or more points in their UF careers.
No. 1 Florida returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Auburn. Opening serve in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center is slated for 4 p.m. ET and the match will be carried live on GatorVision Online and WRUF Sports Radio 850 with Tom Collett and Missy Whittemore.
