Rivals.com says Chris Rainey back on Florida Gators

Citing a single, unnamed source, Rivals.com reported slot receiver Chris Rainey has been reinstated to the Florida football team.

The university and coach Urban Meyer have not announced Rainey’s return. Last week, a Florida spokesperson said Meyer would inform the media if Rainey was allowed back. Meyer did not mention it at his press conference this morning.

Rainey was arrested Sept. 14 on a felony stalking charge that was later reduced to a misdemeanor. Florida immediately removed him from the team, but Meyer did not say whether it was a permanent dismissal.

If Rainey meets the terms of his deferred prosecution — an agreement that included 10 hours of community service and anger management counseling, as well as mandating that he not break the law for the next six months — the stalking charge will be dismissed.

Rainey, a 22-year-old junior from Lakeland, began the season as the team’s starting slot receiver.

Rainey played running back in 2009 and rushed for 575 yards and five touchdowns. He switched to receiver in the off-season. In two games this year, he has six catches for 34 yards and a touchdown, as well as four rushes for 16 yards.
