Incoming University of Florida freshman Mackenzie Caquatto competed as an all-around for the United State in Sunday’s qualification round of the World Gymnastics Championships, held at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The U.S. advances to the World Championships team final, set for Oct. 20, with the third-highest qualifying score. Russia takes the top qualification spot with 234.521, followed by China (233.778) and USA (233.643). The top eight teams from the 12 qualification rounds advance to the World Championship final.
Caquatto turned in scores of 14.933 (vault), 14.466 (uneven bars), 14.266 (balance beam) and 13.533 (floor exercise. Her bar and beam scores stood 12th in the qualification round.
The USA’s 59.164 on balance beam and 60.398 on vault were the highest team scores posted in qualification competition. On bars, the USA posted a 58.299, which stood third overall and a 55.782 on floor (5th). Scores from the preliminary round do not carry forward to the finals.
The format for the final is three competitors for each event, with each score counting toward the team score.

The World Championships features team, all-around and individual event competition. Qualification rounds determine advancement to the team, all-around, and apparatus finals. The women's qualification rounds are Oct. 16-17, with the men's Oct. 18-19. The top eight teams compete in the team finals on Oct. 20 (women) and 21 (men). The top 24 individuals compete in the all-around final on Oct. 22 (men and women). For individual events, the top eight on each apparatus from the qualification rounds advance to the finals (Oct. 23-24). A maximum of two gymnasts per country advances to the all-around and individual event finals.
