A goal off a corner kick in the final minute was all the Auburn Tigers (9-5, 3-3 SEC) needed to take 1-0 win over the No. 6 University of Florida soccer team (10-2-2, 4-1-1 SEC) Sunday afternoon front of an Auburn University Soccer Complex crowd of 518.
Just like on Friday evening in the 1-1 2OT tie at Alabama, the Gators allowed a goal in the 90th minute. Freshman Jordan Miller was able to just get the ball in at the near post to make her first collegiate goal a game winner.

UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh thought Auburn was the better team Sunday.
“We just got out-played. Flat out out-played. It’s pretty simple,” Burleigh said. “I think we had too many unforced errors. They had a good game plan with their bunker and looked to counter. Whether the goal came in the 89th minute or the fifth minute, they had better chances than we did and they deserved to win.”
The Gators’ best chance in the opening half come in the fourth minute. A cross into the box from deep in the Auburn half from Jazmyne Avant missed Tahnai Annis as she moved through the box. AU’s Amy Howard knocked the ball down, but it was briefly loose in six-yard box and McKenzie Barney just missed getting her foot on it.
In the second half, Ashlee Elliott moved from center back to the forward position. In the 71st minute, Elliott juggled the ball and then sent it to top of the box, but just missed Taylor Travis as she made a run through the box. Holly King looked to score off a header on the second consecutive corner kick awarded to the Gators in the 76th minute, but her shot was wide.
Katie Fraine was needed to make the stop of the point-blank shot by AU’s Ashley Marks in the 38th minute. In the second half, Marks moved through the top of the box on a 1v1 opportunity. Fraine lunged left and reached out her arm to deflect Marks’ shot attempt at 58:20. For the day, Fraine registered seven saves while AU’s Howard turned in four saves.
Florida returns home to play host to a pair of SEC Eastern Division rivals. Action begins Friday, Oct. 15 when Tennessee (7-6-1, 4-1-1 SEC) visits the James G. Pressly Stadium. Match time is set for 5 p.m. (NOTE the early start time). Last year, UF and UT met twice, with both matches being extended to overtime. The regular season meeting in Knoxville ended in a 2-2 2OT tie and Florida advanced to the SEC Tournament second round with a 1-0 2OT win over UT in the opening day of action in Orange Beach, Ala. The match airs live on SUN Sports (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 48 or 748). Then No. 18 Georgia (8-2-4, 3-0-3 SEC) comes to town for an Oct. 17 match, which airs live on CSS (Gainesville/Ocala Cox cable channel 259) at 2 p.m. (ET). Florida scored late to take a 1-0 win in last season’s meeting in Athens, Ga.
The UF-UT match can be heard on WRUF SportsRadio 850 or by simulcast on Cox Channel 946 (Gainesville/Ocala) with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington covering the action. Audio for Sunday’s match can be heard on www.GatorZone.com. Live, streaming video of the UT match is available on GatorVision Online – check out the GatorVision on www.GatorZone.com for complete information.
The first 1,000 fans at Friday’s match receive makarapa-style Gator hat. Fans can also register to win tickets to that evening’s Gator Growl, the Homecoming football game versus Mississippi State or men’s and women’s basketball season tickets.
