Gator Cross Country Heads North for 2010 Wisconsin adidas Invitational

The 2010 Florida cross country team will hit the road this weekend for its first out-of-state running competition of the season. The Gators, who were last in action at UF’s home meet, the Mountain Dew Invitational Sept. 18, will head north to the cooler weather to participate in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. The second annual event, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, will take place Saturday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which opened in 2009.

The Gators will face tough national competition at the adidas Invitational, a switch-up from the Gators’ usual participation in the Notre Dame Invitational the past few years, in hopes of getting a glimpse at a new running course and some of the most competitive teams in the country. On the women’s side, Florida, who rose a spot in the USTFCCCA poll from No. 8 to No. 7 this past week, will see top-25 competition against Syracuse (11th), Michigan (22nd), Michigan State (20th), North Carolina (29th) and host Wisconsin (26th).

Florida’s women will race their first 6K race of the season at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday after running a 5K race at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville.

The men’s squad will run its usual 8K race to kick off the meet at noon. Host school Wisconsin enters the meet as the highest ranked team on the men’s side at sixth, with Syracuse (11th), Michigan (15th), Michigan State (18th), Providence (20th), Princeton (23rd), Georgetown (24th) and Indiana (25th).
