Gators report: Inside slant

Florida coaches and players don't want to forget about the mistakes made in the season-opener against Miami of Ohio.

But the Gators also don't want to get caught feeling too sorry for themselves heading into their first-ever meeting against South Florida.

The Bulls have shown the ability to pull off road upsets in the past, knocking off Auburn and Florida State away from home in recent seasons. This time, USF will look to pull off an upset at Florida, where another sellout crowd of 90,000-plus is expected.

"This is an SEC-caliber team that we're playing," Florida coach Urban Meyer said.

Practices have been upbeat since the gaffe-riddled season-opening 34-12 win over Miami. Florida is working on cleaning up the center-quarterback exchange and protecting the football after recording eight fumbles and losing three against the RedHawks.

"There are a lot of guys with a lot of pride in that room," Meyer said.

Like Florida, USF runs the spread offense. But Florida's spread attack was far from efficient in generating just 25 yards of offense through the first three quarters against Miami.

"Things went wrong, but we'll learn from our mistakes," Florida junior quarterback John Brantley said. "We'll get better from here."
