University of Florida seniors Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) and Andres Echavarria (Medellin, Colombia) turned in top-seven performances to keep the Gator men’s golf team leading in first place after round two of the Olympia Fields Invitational in Chicago on Saturday.
Vongvanij shot three under par and improved his 13th-place day one finish to a tie for third-place on Saturday. He made four birdies and one bogey in 18 rounds.
Echavarria also shot three under par to put him in a tie for sixth place (after a round one 34th-place finish) after five birdies and two bogeys.
“Our seniors really stepped up today,” said Head Coach Buddy Alexander. “Bank has really shown how much he has improved over the last year.”
Sophomore Tyler McCumber finished the day tied for 12th-place with five bogeys and two birdies to shoot three over par.
In addition, sophomore Phillip Choi carded two birdies in the first four holes and five bogeys to round his score out to 73. Junior transfer Michael Furci shot 74 on the day with three birdies and seven bogeys.
“We had another solid day today, I am really proud of our guys,” said Alexander. “But we still have a long way to go tomorrow.”
