Rocky road win — UF earns sixth straight over UT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Wearing a big grin jogging off the field at Neyland Stadium early Saturday evening, Florida coach Urban Meyer stopped to shake the hands of dozens of Gator fans gathered in the south end zone stands.

This is not part of the normal post-game routine for the coach, who usually prefers to wave rather than shake when it comes to acknowledging the fans.

It's been a struggle. But Meyer was smiling at the end of the day again Saturday.

"I'm happy to win at this stadium," Meyer said. "I want to thank our following. I can imagine what goes on in this stadium. I just wanted to thank the fans. They were awful loyal to stick around and support us."

The UF fans who braved the hostile environment Saturday were rewarded with a 31-17 victory over Tennessee before 102,455.
