Lacroix Claims Napa Valley Classic Championship

Florida men’s tennis senior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France), the ninth-ranked player in the nation, claimed the 2010 Napa Valley Classic championship on Sunday, held at the Meadowood Resort, earning a USTA wild card into a future event.

The three-day round-robin event with participants from six teams from around the nation concluded with eight of the weekend’s top competitors playing a 10-point tiebreak knockout tournament, in which Lacroix and sophomore Sekou Bangoura Jr. (Bradenton, Fla.) both earned a spot.

While Bangoura fell to Illinois’ Dennis Nevolo in the quarterfinals, 12-10, Lacroix got off to a hot start with a 10-3 victory over California’s Nick Andrews. Lacroix continued his run with a 10-6 win against Kentucky’s Alex Musialek in the semifinals and capped the tournament off with a 10-6 victory in the final over the eighth-ranked Eric Quigley, also of Kentucky.
