The UF women’s golf team is in 11th place after the second day of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship. The Gators recorded a team score of 295 (+7) Saturday which leaves them with an overall team score of 581 (286-295, +5).
“The biggest thing for us is the short game,” Florida Head Coach Jan Dowling said. “We were not nearly as sharp today as we were yesterday. The course played a little bit differently than yesterday and we did not handle the tougher pins as well today as we did yesterday. It is a pretty tight mix of teams and there’s still a lot of golf to be played so we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
The Gators were led by sophomore Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) who moved up eight places from yesterday into a tie for 33rd overall after firing a one-under 71. The Philippines native was consistent throughout as she had one birdie, seven pars and a bogey on the front nine. She bogeyed 11 but closed with birdies on 16 and 18 to finish the round at one-under.
“She hit it really solid today,” Dowling noted. “If you make the putts, it is going to contribute to low scores. I am very happy with the way she finished with a birdie on 16 and then 18.”
Junior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) matched her first round score with another one-over 71, leaving her tied for 43rd with a 36-hole score of 146 (+2). Jensen bogeyed No. 3 but got back to even with a birdie on the par-5 seventh. Bogeys on 11 and 16 dropped her to two-over before she birdied 17 to conclude the day with a 71.
Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) continued her solid play on the front nine as she entered the turn at one-under. After a birdie on No. 10, she bogeyed 11, 14, 16 and 17 en route to a two-over 74. Her total score of 142 (68-74, -2) places her in a tie for 20th and she is still the Gators’ low scorer in the tournament.
Junior Marika Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) had a tough time early as bogeys on the first and fourth holes and then double bogeys on No. 9 and No. 11 had her at six-over through 11 holes. However, Lendl recovered, playing the final seven holes at one-under to complete her afternoon with a five-over 77. She is currently tied for 57th with a cumulative score of 149 (72-77, +5).
Senior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) carded two birdies, 10 pars, four bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey to shoot a 79 (+7) in the second round. She will head to the final round with a total score of 152 (73-79, +8) which puts her in a tie for 69th on the individual leaderboard.
