Last year, Florida defeated Vanderbilt 5-1 in the opening weekend of SEC play. McKenzie Barney scored twice, with the Gators also receiving goals from Tahnai Annis, Jessica Eicken and Erika Tymrak. The last time these two teams met in Nashville, Florida was forced to come from behind three times, never leading the match until Eicken headed in the golden goal off a corner kick in the 95th minute for a 4-3 OT Florida win.

Florida is picked to repeat as the SEC champions in the preseason vote by the league coaches. The Gators have won 10 SEC titles, including the last four, since the program started in 1995. Vanderbilt is picked to finish fifth in the SEC East by the league coaches. In 2009, VU was seventh in the SEC standings with its league record of 5-6 and the Commodores posted an overall record of 11-8-1. League play begins with three SEC teams among the current NSCAA top 25 – No. 7 Florida, No. 17 Georgia and No. 23 South Carolina.

The Gators opened SEC play with a 2-0 win at Kentucky Friday evening. Both goals came in the second half, with the first coming from sophomore Erika Tymrak in the 47th minute and the final goal was headed in by Tahnai Annis in the 81st minute. The shutout was the 21st of UF goalkeeper Katie Fraine’s career, moving her into a tie for first with Jordan Kellgren (1999-02) for Florida’s career solo shutouts lead. The Kentucky contest was the first match of the season in which UF played in rain.

Vanderbilt tied South Carolina 0-0 2OT in its SEC opener on Friday. The Commodores have lost three of its last five matches and is 3-2-1 in home action in 2010. Senior midfielder Molly Kinsella was named to the Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team in August. Kinsella (2 goals, 3 assists) and sophomore Dana Schwartz (3 goals, 1 assist) lead VU this season with seven points each.
