Last year, the Gators claimed a 2-1 win over Duke at the James G. Pressly Stadium in September. Florida scored first with a goal from Lindsay Thompson in the 42nd minute, but the Blue Devils ‘ Chelsea Canepa tied the match just over two minutes later. Brooke Thigpen used her first collegiate game-winning goal to put UF ahead in the 64th minute.

This match is the second of three consecutive road meetings versus Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. Last Friday, the Gators left Tallahassee with a 2-1 OT victory versus then No. 10 Florida State. Sophomore McKenzie Barney put in the golden goal just 15 seconds into overtime action, bettering the previous quickest goal from a kickoff (19 seconds) scored by All-American Abby Wambach to open the 2000 match at Mississippi. The goal followed the overtime kickoff after Holly King, from about 15 yards above the FSU box, sent it over to Nicky Kit on the left sideline. Kit brought the ball toward the end line and then served it into the box. Barney, with a Seminole on her left and right, was just able to get a foot on it to score at the near post corner for the golden goal. For her effort, Barney was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week, picked up her second Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor of 2010 and was named to the CollegeSoccer 360 Primetime Performers National list.

In last weekend’s action, then No. 15 Duke tied Florida International 0-0 2OT on Sept. 10 to record its first tie of the season. On Sunday, Duke turned in a 1-0 victory over Yale. The Blue Devils extended their scoreless streak to 395.52 minutes last Sunday, which spans over the last five matches. Duke’s match versus Florida is its fifth in a six-match homestand.

Friday’s match can also be heard on WRUF AM 850, by simulcast on Cox Channel 946 (Gainesville/Ocala) or on www.GatorZone.com with Adam Schick covering the action.
