Chris Rainey case resolution not likely until Monday

It has been a week and a half since Florida receiver Chris Rainey was arrested for aggravated stalking. It sounded like he would know by Friday whether he would indeed face felony charges, but now Monday seems more likely.

Prosecutor Bill Cervone said today he does not anticipate a resolution this week, but believes a decision on charges will be reached Monday. Defense attorney Huntley Johnson, who expects the charges to be reduced below felony level or dismissed, was unavailable for comment.

Gators coach Urban Meyer said Rainey has not had any participation in team activities.

“No, no,” he said. “Nowhere near the team.”

Asked if team discipline would be based on whether Rainey faces a felony charge, Meyer said that topic is premature.

“I’m not even thinking about that,” Meyer said. “I’m letting everything be handled. At some point we’ll have to address it. That point’s not now.”

Earlier this week, center Mike Pouncey said he knows Rainey will be reinstated, though a Florida spokesperson said Pouncey’s comment does not represent the university, the program or Meyer.
