Recruit Jeff Driskel to arrive in Gainesville tomorrow, ready to enroll

Oviedo-Hagerty quarterback Jeff Driskel said throughout Florida’s coaching change he planned to remain a Gator. He will make it official tomorrow.

Driskel, who is ranked No. 1 in the country at his position by Rivals.com, will arrive in Gainesville and enroll Friday, his mother said today. Classes began earlier this week at Florida, but Driskel was delayed by his participation in the Under Armour All-America Game.

By enrolling at Florida, Driskel is locked in to the Gators. He cannot sign a national letter of intent until Feb. 2, but by enrolling and accepting an athletic scholarship to pay for it, he would be subject to NCAA transfer rules if he wanted to leave.

Driskel, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, won the Maxwell Club’s award as the national high school player of the year. He also won the Gatorade player of the year honor for the state of Florida.

Last season, Driskel threw for 1,819 yards and 15 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 1,333 yards and 20 touchdowns and catching two.

Driskel’s impact as a freshman could vary. If John Brantley returns for his senior season, he likely remains the starter under new coach Will Muschamp. If not, Driskel will have a chance to win the starting job as a true freshman.
