Muschamp hires Weis, two others to nearly complete staff

Will Muschamp, a defensive coach, made perhaps his most important hire Monday, naming Charlie Weis to coordinate his Florida offense.

Weis is a four-time Super Bowl-winning coach who comes to UF from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he served as offensive coordinator this season helped turn around the Chiefs' offense. Before that, Weis was the head coach at Notre Dame for five seasons.

"Charlie was a perfect fit for what I was looking for in an offensive coordinator," Muschamp said. "He has both college and pro experience and has been a play-caller in the NFL. He has four Super Bowl rings and his accomplishments and his ability to develop quarterbacks speak for themselves.

"Charlie will remain with the Kansas City Chiefs through the playoffs. We hope the Chiefs make a run to the Super Bowl — it would be great for the Chiefs and great for the Gators. Everyone involved with the Kansas City organization has been first class about the transition."

Muschamp also announced the hiring of Frank Verducci as offensive line/running game coordinator and George Wynn as assistant athletic director for football operations.

Verducci brings 28 years of coaching experience at the NFL and collegiate levels. Verducci coached at Notre Dame in 2009 following eight seasons in the NFL with Cleveland, Buffalo, Dallas and Cincinnati.

"Frank will bring a sense of toughness and a physical style of play to our offensive line," Muschamp said. "It is important that the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator work closely together and always be on the same page. Charlie and Frank had that together at Notre Dame in 2009 and they will have a cohesive plan for the Gators."

Wynn comes to UF from Texas, where he was the director of football operations and worked with Muschamp.
