Men's Tennis Heads To Knoxville For SEC Indoor Championships

The ninth-ranked University of Florida men’s tennis team travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the SEC Indoor Championships, which include both a singles and a doubles draw, from Jan. 14-17 in the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center on the University of Tennessee campus.

UF looks to build on a strong fall season that saw three players climb to career-high national rankings, with senior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) at No. 4 (tied for a career best) and sophomores Sekou Bangoura Jr. (Bradenton, Fla.) and Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.) ranked 28th and 52nd, respectively. That trio also combined to go 39-7 (.783) in singles action during the fall season.

Lacroix and former doubles partner and fellow All-American Antoine Benneteau won the doubles draw at the 2010 SEC Indoor even, while Bangoura made a run to the singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals while playing in the first event of his collegiate career. Also at the 2010 SEC Indoors, Lacroix advanced to the Round of 16 and both van Overbeek and junior Nassim Slilam (Paris, France) reached the Round of 32.

A live blog of the event will be hosted at UTSports.com, and all scores will be posted on that website, as well. Score updates will also be available by following SEC Indoors on Twitter at twitter.com/SECIndoors2011.
