The No. 6 University of Florida soccer team (10-1-1, 4-0 SEC) continues its four match stretch against Southeastern Conference Western Division rivals with a visit to Alabama (8-2-1, 3-0-1 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 8. Match time is set for 8 p.m. (ET) at the Alabama Soccer Complex. The match will be aired live on Fox Sports Florida (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 70 or 770).

In last season’s meeting, Florida scored in the opening and closing 10 minutes to claim a 2-0 win over the Tide. Lindsay Thompson scored her eighth goal of the season in the seventh minute to give UF a 1-0 lead. The Gators scored again in the 81st minute when Erika Tymrak hit from six yards.
The Gators played its first SEC home action last weekend and opened with a 7-1 win versus Mississippi State. Scoring came in spurts, as Florida scored three goals (Erika Tymrak, McKenzie Barney and Tahnai Annis) from the 10th to 14th minute. The Gators got a pair of goals within a minute and a half of the second half, as Caroline Triglia turned in her first collegiate goal, followed shortly by Lindsay Thompson’s first goal of the evening. The final two Gator goals were the second of the evening for both players – Thompson and Annis.
On Sunday, Florida turned in a 3-0 win versus Mississippi. The first goal was a Rebel own goal but the Gators scored twice in the second half to get the 3-0 win. Senior left back Nicky Kit hit a 20-yard shot set up by a corner kick for her first goal of the season and first since 2008. Barney kept her school-record string of consecutive home appearances with a goal (9) alive when she scored in the 90th minute. The previous record of seven was shared by Gator All-Americans Abby Wambach (2001) and Sarah Yohe (1999).
The Tide leads the SEC Western Division and shares second overall in the league standings with its 3-0-1 record. Last weekend, Alabama played its first league road action and opened with a scoreless double overtime tie at LSU. On Sunday, the Tide used two first half goals to post a 2-1 win at Arkansas. Alabama opened SEC play with 2-0 wins over Mississippi and Mississippi State. Senior Brooke Rogers leads UA in 2010 with six goals and 12 points. Alabama goalkeeper, junior Justine Bernier, leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the nation with her goals against average of 0.28. She has allowed only two goals in the seven matches she has played.
