Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said Tuesday there's no truth to the rumor that starting quarterback John Brantley is injured and could miss UF's game against LSU on Saturday.
News of a possible injury to Brantley trickled its away across the country Tuesday morning and resulted in several Las Vegas casinos removing Saturday's showdown between the No. 14 Gators and No. 12 LSU from their betting boards.
"I'm a bit sore," Brantley said to the media Monday morning. "It's nothing major."
Brantley was attended to by trainers after being hit in last Saturday's loss to No. 1 Alabama, but said Monday he expected to practice through the week and play against the Tigers.
But as rumors spread that his status may be in doubt for the weekend, Las Vegas casinos removed the game from among those eligible for wagers.
"We're hearing that (Brantley) is questionable," said Jay Kornegay, Sportsbook Director at the Las Vegas Hilton. "Whenever we get confirmation, either way, what his status is, if he's playing or not, that'll make it a betting game again."
A UF spokesman on Tuesday said Brantley is fine and is expected to play Saturday.
Kornegay said his sportsbook may wait until as late as it can to re-post the game due to the uncertainties surrounding both Brantley and the inexperience of backup Trey Burton.
"If the backup quarterback is comparable, we can usually throw it back up a little faster," he said. "But if you have a freshman quarterback that hasn't played much, and I'm not talking just about Florida, we usually try to wait as long as we can to put it back up because there's a big difference in the caliber of player."
More should be known about Brantley's status when he's scheduled to meet with the media this afternoon.
