After Alabama loss, Florida prepares to face LSU

Florida Gators drop to No. 14 in AP poll, will face No. 12 LSU on Saturday

Florida at a glance
LET'S LOOK AHEAD: No. 14 Florida returns home to face No. 12 LSU. The Tigers (5-0, 3-0 SEC) are coming off a 16-14 win at Tennessee. The Vols were up 14-10 and had made a stop on third-and-goal from the 1-yard line on the final play of game. But they were flagged for having 13 players on the field and LSU scored on the next play. The Tigers have wins over two ranked teams (North Carolina and West Virginia) already this season, while the Gators have none. LSU is first in total defense and second in scoring defense in the SEC, a bad sign for a struggling Florida offense. For the third time this season, the Gators' defense will face the SEC's top rusher. LSU's Steven Ridley is averaging 111.4 yards per game.

LET'S REVIEW: Suffering one of the ugliest defeats of Urban Meyer's tenure, the Gators were outdone in almost all phases of the game at No. 1 Alabama. The offense turned the ball over four times and was 1-for-4 in the red zone. The defense allowed the Crimson Tide to score on its first four possessions and struggled to get pressure on QB Greg McElroy. Senior Chas Henry was one of the few highlights, averaging 62.3 yards on punts and making two field goals. Otherwise, it was an ugly night for the Gators.

INJURY UPDATE: RB Jeff Demps played sparingly on Saturday, still recovery from a foot sprain he suffered at Tennessee on Sept. 18. He led the Gators' rushing attack with 11 carries for 47 yards. QB John Brantley left the game in the fourth quarter after being sandwiched between two defenders on a keeper. He said he hurt his ribs and would be fine.

THEY SAID IT: "Early we didn't tackle as well as we should have, but I thought we settled down with tackling. Those are two talented backs and I thought we tackled better after the first quarter. But we needed to tackle well from the beginning and that's something in these types of games you don't get do overs. It's not practice." – Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on how the defense did against Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson
