Gator Men Remain No. 1

On the strength of its finest weekend of the 2011 campaign, including eight NCAA automatic-qualifying marks, the University of Florida men’s track and field remains in the nation’s No. 1 spot, according to the latest computer rankings by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association, announced Tuesday.

The Gators, who were the preseason No. 1 team, have been ranked in the nation’s top spot for three of the four weeks of the 2011 poll, including two consecutive. Southeastern Conference foe LSU is rated No. 2, while Indiana (No. 3), Texas A&M (No. 4) and Arkansas (No. 5) round out the USTFCCCA’s top-five.

Six SEC teams are among the nation’s top-25 squads this week, including: No. 1 Florida, No. 2 LSU, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 19 Alabama, No. 22 Georgia and No. 24 Auburn.

Florida returns to action Feb. 25-27, when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to participate in the 2011 SEC Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas at its Randal Tyson Track Center.
