Brombacher Picks Up Second Consecutive SEC Pitcher of the Week Honors

For the second consecutive week, University of Florida senior pitcher Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) picked up SEC Pitcher of the Week accolades, announced by the league office Monday. Brombacher turned in three wins this past week, all shutouts, against Jacksonville and No. 22 North Carolina. The senior ace has yet to allow a run this season in six total wins. She leads the Gators with a perfect 0.00 ERA, has tallied 35 strikeouts in 31.0 innings of work, walked just five and has yielded 14 hits through nine games so far this season.

The No. 5 Gators have shut out seven of nine opponents, racked up 82 runs to opponents’ three and are off to the third-best start in program history (9-0). After pitching her second career perfect game against NC State Feb. 12, Brombacher returned with her eighth career one-hitter in a mid-week tilt with Jacksonville Feb. 16. Brombacher also helped lead the Orange and Blue to a sweep of No. 22 UNC this past weekend, pitching 12.0 innings, walking just two and retiring eight batters by strikeout. Helping Brombacher out offensively, Florida has dropped 20 home runs, 18 doubles and owns a .750 slugging percentage through nine games.

UF will head next to the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., where the Gators will play five games in the three-day tournament, including key match-ups with No. 1 UCLA and No. 13 Texas, while also facing Indiana, San Diego State and Utah before heading home for its home tournament, the 2011 Lipton Invitational March 4-6.
