F women take lead after another record-breaking day in SEC Championships

GAINESVILLE – Florida's Conor Dwyer continued to break records in the SEC Swimming Championships on Thursday in the O'Connell Center.

The UF senior broke the SEC record in the 500-yard freestyle, a day after he was part of records in the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays. Dwyer swam a time of 4:11.36 in the 500 free, the fastest time in the country this year and better than his personal-best time that won the NCAA title last year.

Dwyer set the SEC record in the 200 free on Wednesday, falling .01 seconds short of the American record on the first leg of the 800 free relay.

On the women's side, freshman Elizabeth Beisel won the 500 free with a time of 4:37.74. That ranks second all-time at UF.

The Florida women ended the day in first place with 291 points over second-place Auburn (286), while the second-place Gator men trail the first-place Tigers, 378-308.

Several other Gators placed in the meet. Freshman Marcin Cieslak finished second the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:43.90. His time was the fastest by a freshman this season.

Longwood native Brad deBorde finished third in the 50 free (19.64 seconds) with a time that ranked third in school history and was the fastest ever by a freshman at UF.

Orlando native Sarah Bateman tied the school record she broke earlier in the day, finishing second in the 50 free with a school record time of 22 seconds.

Shara Stafford also placed third in the 200 IM.

In the only relay of the day, deBorde, Dwyer, Scott Sommer and Marco Loughran took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Alana Pazevic, Bateman, Stafford and Kaitlin Frehling finished fifth in the 200 free relay.
