Both Gator Teams Among Top-25 This Week

The Florida track and field teams are both among the nation’s top-25 this week in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll. The Gator men remain No. 1 for the third consecutive week, while the women are ranked No. 21 this week.

As is customary, rankings from the fourth week on, calculated and released by the USTFCCCA, use data only from the current season (with exception of combined events) to formulate a team’s ranking score. With the big shift in information used, so too goes the top 25 with some teams making dramatic steps up or down the national landscape.

The Gator men, who were the preseason No. 1 team, have been ranked in the nation’s top spot for four of the five weeks of the 2011 poll. Southeastern Conference foe LSU is rated No. 2, while Indiana (No. 3), Texas A&M (No. 4) and Arkansas (No. 5) round out the USTFCCCA’s top-five for the men.

Five SEC teams are among the nation’s top-25 men’s squads this week, including No. 1 Florida, No. 2 LSU, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 17 Alabama and No. 24 Georgia.

Oregon is the No. 1 on the women’s side, followed by No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Texas. Arkansas (No. 4) and Texas A&M (No. 5) round out the USTFCCCA’s top-five for the women.

Five SEC teams are among the nation’s top-25 women’s squads this week, including No. 2 LSU, No. 4 LSU, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 21 Florida and No. 24 Auburn.

Florida returns to action Feb. 25-27, when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to participate in the 2011 SEC Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas at its Randal Tyson Track Center.
