Chandler Parsons Named SEC Player of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida senior forward Chandler Parsons (Casselberry, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Parsons earned the honor after averaging 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals this past week in nationally-televised wins over No. 23/24 Vanderbilt (Feb. 1) and No. 18 Kentucky (Feb. 5). The two wins marked the first time since 2007 that the No. 17/19 Gators picked up consecutive victories over ranked opponents.

In the overtime victory over Vanderbilt at home, Parsons finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The senior scored four of UF’s final seven points in the extra period, while helping UF seal the victory with a key rebound after a missed Commodores’ three-pointer in overtime.

Against the Wildcats Saturday night in Gainesville, Parsons registered his fifth double-double of the season (12th career) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The swingman finished 6-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. Parsons, who played the entire second half against UK, also dished out five assists without committing a single turnover.

Parsons and the rest of the Gators return to the court this Wednesday, Feb. 9, as UF travels to Columbia, S.C., for a SEC East showdown against South Carolina. The game, which will tip off at 8 p.m. ET, will be televised live on the SEC Network.
