Early enrollee Jeff Driskel is prize of Gators’ class

The gem of the Gators’ recruiting class, quarterback Jeff Driskel has already enrolled early and will have the spring to learn the Gators’ new offense. Driskel stuck with Florida after Urban Meyer’s resignation and helped keep the class together.
His running ability might make him better suited for Meyer’s spread-option offense, but he possesses a strong arm and could challenge John Brantley for the starting spot in Charlie Weis’ pro-style offense. That’s not to say he’d get it, but it could make for an interesting spring.
Here’s more on the consensus top quarterback in the class of 2011:

Recruiting buzz: The consensus top quarterback in the country, Driskel might be the most highly-touted quarterback to ever come out of Central Florida. A versatile passer and thrower, Driskel had more than 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns this season. A 63-yard touchdown run in the Under Armour All-America Game highlighted Driskel’s running ability, but the Gators’ early enrollee thinks he’ll be known more as a passer. Driskel was named the Maxwell Football Club’s National High School Player of the Year.

What they’re saying: “When stuff breaks down and things don’t go like it’s supposed to go … I have the ability to break a tackle or two and make a play with my legs or have the opportunity to throw down field,” Driskel said. “A lot of people kind of forget that I have a strong arm and I’m accurate because I make a lot of plays with my feet.

“I think that will carry me farther than my legs will, in college”
