Bob van Overbeek Wins Texas Invitational Singles Title

Florida men’s tennis sophomore Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.) claimed the singles title at the Texas Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas, on Sunday. van Overbeek took the final in straight sets over Oklahoma freshman Peerakit Siributwong, 6-1, 6-3.

The win capped a run of five victories in three days by van Overbeek to win the event. Siributwong is ranked in the top 10 in the ITA newcomer rankings and holds a high ATP ranking of 754.

"Bob beat a high quality player to win this tournament,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “He is working very hard and is improving so fast. The Gators are very proud of him and really excited for the spring.”

With the tournament victory, van Overbeek improves his career singles record to 28-8 wearing the Orange and Blue.

Florida will next see action at the Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate clay court event in Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 12-14, which will wrap up the fall season for the Gator men.
