Women's Golf Completes Fall Season at Pac-10/SEC Challenge

The UF women’s golf team completed the fall season with an 18th-place finish in the inaugural Pac-10/SEC Challenge after a wet, rainy third round Sunday that saw play suspended for two hours at the Stanford Golf Course.  The Gators recorded a team score of 317 (+33) which left them with an overall team score of 924 (309-298-317, +72).
“We need to learn how to control our mistakes and learn the value of a par on a tough golf course on a tough day,” Florida Head Coach Jan Dowling said. “We will get better. My hope is that the team reflects on this fall and there will be good motivation for them to work hard this winter to prepare for spring.”
Sophomore Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) paced the Orange and Blue with a four-over 75 that catapulted her 11 spots into a tie for 79th. She improved her score by two strokes from the first to the second round and again from the second to the third round. Piccio carded one birdie, 11 pars and six bogeys on the day as she was able to limit damage throughout the day.
“Mia hung in there, that’s for sure,” Dowling explained. “She played a lot of golf this fall and she has gotten better every day, so you have to take the positives out of it too.”
Junior Marika Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) was among the Gators’ two lowest-scorers Friday and Saturday and continued the trend Sunday as she fired a six-over 77 and her cumulative score of 224 (+11) put her in a tie for 34th that led the team. She also avoided anything worse than a bogey over the course of the afternoon as she registered a birdie on the par-5 16th, 10 pars and seven bogeys.
Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) shot a nine-over 80 which placed her in a tie for 38th overall with a 54-hole score of 225 (73-72-80, +12). The Gator junior recorded one birdie, nine pars, six bogeys and two double bogeys. She was solid on the par-5’s, totaling a one-under on the four par-5’s today.
Sophomore Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) capped off her tournament with a 13-over 84 and ended in a tie for  104th with a cumulative score of 249 (89-76-84, +36). Although she struggled with four double bogeys on the day, she made par on all five of the par-3’s Sunday. Junior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) posted a 15-over 86 and concluded the event with a total score of 248 (81-81-86, +35) that placed her in 103rd.
Florida will begin the spring season with the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge from Feb. 14-16, 2011 in Palos Verdes, Calif.
