Demps upgraded to probable

Junior running back Jeff Demps is still bothered by the stress reaction in his foot, but Meyer said he will be available to play Saturday.

Meyer said Demps hasn't practiced in the last six or seven weeks and his playing status is usually a game-time decision. With the quality opponent Meyer says Appalachian State is, he said he won't risk holdingDemps out.

"We're going to do everything we can to win the darn game," Meyer said. "This is a real team. This is a national-championship caliber team in 1-AA. The coach is a good friend of mine. I know they're coming in to win this game.

"Jeff Demps, he's one of those guys that goes 40 yards every time he touches the ball. Devastating (that's he's been injured)."

In other injury news, Meyer said junior defensive tackle Jaye Howard (ankle) is "good to go" and should play Saturday.

"He's still a little limited, but he'll play," Meyer said.

Sophomore linebacker Jon Bostic (bruised sternum) and sophomore running back Mike Gillislee (hamstring) should also play.

Players who are out include senior linebacker A.J. Jones (hamstring), junior offensive lineman James Wilson (knee) and sophomore linebacker Dee Finley (fracture collarbone). Meyer said Finley will play next week at Florida State.

Though not injured, freshman Dominique Easley, who didn't travel to Vanderbilt or dress for South Carolina, is eligible to play Saturday.
