University of Florida senior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. It is his second such honor this season and comes after Florida’s pair of hard-fought road wins over Alabama and Auburn last weekend.
The sixth-ranked Gator veteran earned the accolade on the heels of a milestone Friday at Alabama in which he broke UF’s career doubles record with his 94th victory, as he and sophomore Sekou Bangoura Jr. (Bradenton, Fla.) helped Florida sweep the Tide on all three doubles courts. Lacroix then proceeded to notch career singles victory No. 100 as he was first off the court from the first position to help the Gators to a 6-1 victory.
Lacroix then picked up a critical singles win on Sunday at Auburn against No. 23 Tim Puetz, helping the Gators top the Tigers, 4-3, and improving his SEC singles record to 4-0, all at the No. 1 position.
The senior has led No. 13 UF to its second consecutive 4-0 start in SEC play (11-3 overall). He currently sits at No. 3 on Florida’s all-time combined wins chart with 195 and is No. 7 in singles victories with 101.
The Gators next host No. 3 USC on Thursday at 5 p.m. before resuming SEC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against No. 29 Ole Miss.
