GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men’s and women’s diving teams concluded day one of the 2011 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships with final appearances on both sides, Thursday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.
Senior Monica Dodson (Franklin, Ind.) ended the day with a team-best 12th-place finish, scoring 596.90 in the women’s three-meter competition. The 2011 SEC champion and record holder on the three-meter boards advanced to the finals with an 18th-place score of 276.30. Finishing in 26th place with a score of 250.60 in the prelims was junior Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.), while freshman Danielle Risley (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished right behind her in 27th with a score of 247.85.
On the men’s side, Junior Anthony Lewark (Davie, Fla.) was the lone Gator to make the male finals on the one-meter boards, finishing 17th with a score of 592.30. Lewark’s final score was added to his 15th-place mark of 296.35 the junior attained in the prelims. Finishing nine spots behind Lewark with 274.90 points in the prelims was senior Jonathan Speed (Jupiter, Fla.). Freshman Mike Lewark (Davie, Fla.) took 32nd with a score of 254.40, while junior David Springfels (Bradenton, Fla.) placed 34th with a score of 252.55. Freshman Christopher Jones (Palm City, Fla.) and senior Grayson Patten (West Palm Beach, Fla.) rounded out the Gator men competing, finishing 38th (242.05) and 39th (239.40), respectively.
