Florida's offensive line still a work in progress

GAINESVILLE — Will Muschamp pointed to the lack of depth up front as Florida's most glaring weakness before spring practice began.

Three guys that could help alleviate that problem on offense are Xavier Nixon, Matt Patchan and James Wilson. But they will need to overcome some hurdles first.

Muschamp is hoping that Nixon, who is listed at 290 pounds, can gain some weight by the time the season starts in order to help him play offensive tackle.

"You're always in either a position where a guy is at a perfect weight, a guy is overweight or a guy is underweight," Muschamp said. "And he is certainly not where we want him to be right now."

There was some good news Patchan, however.

Patchan, who missed last season with a wrist injury, has been told he can participate in cardiovascular drills and lifting sessions. He has not been cleared for contact.

In Wilson's case, he is still being bothered by a knee injury he suffered last season. He is still limited in practice and Muschamp made it clear that he did not want to overwork the redshirt senior.
