Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis was pursued by Texas prior to taking a job with the Gators, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
According to columnist Kirk Bohls’ sources, Weis and Texas were on the verge of a deal before former Longhorns defensive coordinator Will Muschamp was hired as head coach at Florida. Had that not happened, it appears Weis and Muschamp would have been co-workers at Texas.
Weis said his main reason for taking a college job was the opportunity to work with his son, who is close to graduating from high school and intends to work as a student-assistant in the football program. Charlie, Jr., originally planned to work under Muschamp at Texas.
