UF suspends two basketball players charged with burglary

Erik Murphy and Cody Larson were suspended Monday by Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan after they were arrested and charged with breaking into a car.

Murphy and Larson were arrested early Sunday morning outside Scarlett O'Hara's Bar and Restaurant in St. Augustine. Police say witnesses spotted Murphy and Larson breaking into a car outside the restaurant/bar. The car owner reported nothing missing.

“I'm aware of Cody and Erik's situation and very disappointed with the news,'' Donovan told Gatorzone.com. “The two are currently suspended from basketball-related activities. I'm not going to comment further until I have more information and get a chance to meet with both student-athletes.”

Murphy and Larson were charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary. They were booked at the St. Johns County Jail about 4 a.m. Sunday and later released on $5,000 bond.

A sophomore forward, Murphy averaged 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds coming off the bench last season. Larson, also a forward, redshirted his freshman season.
