GAINESVILLE
-- While most of the attention this fall has been on Florida’s
competition at quarterback, there is another battle taking place on
the defensive side of the ball.
Speaking
to the media for the first time this fall, sophomore Louchiez
Purifoy
said there is not a starter set at cornerback despite the return of
10-game starters Marcus
Roberson
and Cody
Riggs.
The two incumbents, who played at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas,
are locked in a battle with Purifoy and fellow sophomore Jaylen
Watkins.
“Everybody
is competing. There’s no starters,” Purifoy said. “Everybody is
just competing for a job.”
Thought
to be a lock at one of the corner spots, Roberson is fully healthy
after recovering from a neck injury sustained late last season.
Still, when asked if Roberson has secured one of the starting spots,
Purifoy said: “Nobody has a job.”
