Jeff Demps, the former Florida Gator and Groveland South Lake standout, earned his first Olympic medal.
Demps
did not run in the finals of the 4x100-meter relay, but the American
team placed second. As a result, Demps was awarded a silver medal for
running in the qualifying round and contributing to the team.
Usain Bolt led the Jamaican team to the gold medal, finishing with a time of 36.84 seconds. The American team of Trell Kimmons, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Ryan Bailey fiished with a time of 37.04, tying the old world record Bolt helped Jamaica set during last year's world championships.
