Florida has extended the contract of coach Will Muschamp, adding a
year to his original five-year deal and securing him through the 2016
season, Sporting News has learned.
Muschamp’s first Florida team went 7-6, including a Gator Bowl
victory over Ohio State. His original contract was a five-year, $13.75
million deal (averaging $2.75 million a year). The one-year extension
doesn’t include an increase in salary.
“We’re building something long-term here,” Muschamp said. “We have
an incredible amount of support from our administration. On a scale of
1-10, we’re an 11 right now as far as excitement about where we’re
headed.”
The Gators just completed a top five recruiting class, continuing
the turnover from the Urban Meyer years. Florida played 15 true freshmen
last fall, and was one of the youngest teams in the nation.
The Gators begin spring practice March 14, with the focus on the
quarterback battle between sophomores Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett.
