T.J. Vogel Wins Second Tournament of the Year as Gators Cruise to Charleston Shootout Title

The University of Florida men’s golf team used a final round 287 to finish 15 strokes ahead of Augusta State to capture its third tournament victory of the season at the Charleston Shootout at the Links at Stono Ferry. For the day, UF was led by junior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) who captured his second individual title of the season after finishing the tournament with an impressive three-round total of 206 (-10 ).

“It was another good, solid, day out there for us,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “We’re very happy to get the win on a course that played a lot tougher today.”

“T.J.’s win was awesome,” Alexander continued. “He’s been incredibly good for us and I don’t see why it has to stop. He’s incredibly consistent and just has a drive to get better every time out.”

Vogel, who now has six consecutive top-8 finishes, posted a final round 72 (E) to claim the victory by a stroke over defending tournament champion Jacobo Paston of Charleston Southern. After making the turn in one-over 37, Vogel dropped another stroke on the par-3 11th to fall out of the lead. The junior didn’t back down and recovered nicely making birdies on two of his next four holes and closing with a trio of pars going out to clinch the victory.
