UF softball joins baseball as top-ranked teams

You can almost hear Dick Vitale make the call: “Florida has a couple of diamond dandies, baby!”
On Tuesday, the Florida softball team joined the Gator baseball team with a No. 1 national ranking.

The UF baseball team, which opens the season Friday by hosting Cal State Fullerton for a three-game weekend series, occupies the top spot in the four major collegiate preseason polls: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches.
Florida's softball team jumped a spot to No. 1 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Top 25 rankings Tuesday after going 5-0 last weekend and previous No. 1 Arizona State suffering a loss.

The Gator softball team puts its top ranking on the line Wednesday against Jacksonville in a 5 p.m. game at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
