Chas Henry Honored at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards

Florida punter Chas Henry (Dallas, Ga.) became the first player in Florida history to win the Ray Guy Award, an award presented to the nation’s top punter, Thursday night at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards in Orlando.

Henry was one of three finalists in 2009 and one of 10 semifinalists in 2008. The only other Florida punter that has been a semifinalist for the award was Eric Wilbur in 2005.

With the award, Henry beat out 2009 Ray Guy recipient Drew Butler (Georgia) and Iowa’s Ryan Donahue.

In addition, Henry was honored at the Awards with a spot on the 2010 Walter Camp All-America first team.

Henry’s 44 punts for 2,042 yards (46.4 avg.) this season is not only the highest average in the country, but stands as the best average in Florida history. Additionally, 14 of his 34 punts (41.2 percent) have been 50 yards or more through 12 games. Sixteen of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line and 13 have been fair caught.

Henry has also taken over kicking duties for the Gators and was named the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Florida’s 34-31 overtime win against Georgia after he kicked the game-winning field goal.
