Sophomore Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and junior Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fueled the Florida basketball team to a 57-44 upset over No. 6 Kansas State at the Orange Bowl Classic at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday.
Boynton erupted for 15 points from the field (6-of-12) and Walker added 13 (4-of-9) as the Gators forced nine Wildcat turnovers and held Kansas State to 27 percent shooting (15-for-56), marking the fifth-consecutive team Florida has held to under 57 points.
UF fell behind 20-8 in the first half, but outscored KSU 42-13 to take control of the game.
Senior Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth, Va.) had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while senior Chandler Parsons (Casselberry, Fla.) and Erik Murphy (South Kingston, R.I.) each added seven points and four rebounds.
The Gators ended a streak of 14 December wins for the Wildcats dating back to 2008. Kansas State had won its past five games, their only other loss to top-ranked Duke.
