GAINESVILLE
-- READY
FOR FAST PACE
Defensive
coordinator Dan
Quinn
doesn’t have any game tape on Texas A&M under new coach Kevin
Sumlin,
but he believes the tempo the Aggies are likely to play with could
cause problems.
Sumlin’s
offense at Houston last season led the nation with an average of 49.3
points and 599.1 yards per game. The Cougars also played with pace,
leading the nation with 1,102 total plays on offense.
“The
way they move in and out of those tempos in combination with the big
plays, that’s a big part of their offense,” Quinn said. “When
they get into that pace, you really have to do a good job with your
substitution because you don’t want to do it within a series, where
you could get on and then guys are running off.”
Florida
rotated heavily along the defensive line in its opener against
Bowling Green, going with its backup unit for entire drives at times.
But with Texas A&M pushing the pace, those substitutions will be
tougher to execute during extended drives.
• Quinn
said there was a possibility of moving starting linebacker Lerentee
McCray
to the strong side if freshman linebacker Dante
Fowler continues
to progress.
