Florida (3-3-1, 0-1 SEC) dropped its Southeastern Conference opener 2-1 at Kentucky (6-1, 1-0 SEC) in front of a UK Soccer Complex crowd of 1,348.

A penalty kick from each team provided all the scoring of the opening half. Florida was awarded a penalty kick in the 12th minute when senior All-American Erika Tymrak was fouled in the box. Fellow senior McKenzie Barney converted the first penalty kick of her UF career. It was the first penalty kick awarded to the Gators this season, with the last coming Sept. 25, 2011, at Tennessee.
The score was knotted in the 30th minute when the Gators were cited with a foul in the box, giving the Wildcats their second penalty kick of the season. Arin Gilliland hit her attempt to give UK its first successful penalty kick of the season.
A goal off a corner kick gave the Wildcats the final 2-1 margin early in the second half. Courtney Roetzman scored her first goal of the season off the scrum following the kick from Danielle Krohn.
Florida continues SEC road play Sunday at Auburn. The Tigers lost 2-0 to No. 21 Missouri on Friday. Match time for the UF-AU contest is set for 3 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
