The
University of Florida women’s tennis team held on to the No. 2 spot in the
weekly Intercollegiate Tennis Association national team rankings, while Gator
senior Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) remaining atop the national
singles rankings that are released biweekly.
This
is the fourth consecutive week the Gators (17-2, 10-1 SEC) are ranked second in
the country behind North Carolina. Texas A&M, Georgia, Southern California,
UCLA, Michigan, Alabama, Duke and Miami (Fla.) round out the top 10.
For
Embree, this is also the fourth straight ranking period when the four-time
All-American is the No. 1-ranked singles player in the country.
All
seven members of Florida’s 2012-13 squad earned a national singles ranking for
the second consecutive listing, with Sofie Oyen No. 13, Alexandra
Cercone No. 57, Brianna Morgan No. 104, Danielle Collins No.
113, Caroline Hitimana No. 120 and Olivia Janowicz No. 125.
Embree
and Oyen moved up three spots in the national doubles rankings to No. 17, while
Embree also pairs with Collins at No. 47.
Florida
returns to action this weekend for its final two matches of the regular season.
The Gators play Kentucky in Lexington on Friday, before facing No. 18
Vanderbilt on Sunday in Nashville.
